Forged centre-lock wheels, sports exhaust and carbon-fibre aero aids among new options for BMW M cars

BMW M has launched a new range of performance enhancements for the BMW M2, M3 and M4 that includes a set of cool motorsport-inspired lightweight forged alloy wheels.

Developed by BMW M Performance Parts, and still to be confirmed for Australia, the new centre-lock alloy wheels feature a distinctive Y-spoke design, Jet Black paint finish and ‘BMW M’ milled into the outer edge of the rim.

They’re available in 19-inch for the front axle and 20-inch for the rear.

BMW M hasn’t announced just how many kilos it has cut per corner, but says the switch to a centre lock has reduced rotating masses that benefits handling and steering feel.

For those worried about entrusting their safety to a single bolt, BMW M says it’s required to be tightened up to an incredible 930Nm of torque.

Favoured by late 1980s supercar royalty like the Porsche 959 and Ferrari F40, centre-lock wheels have been the preserve of top-flight supercars and, more recently, extreme track-focused sports cars like the Porsche 911 GT3.

The single hub fixed provides for faster wheel changes compared to rims attached by four- or five-bolt studs.

Available as a dealer-fit accessory for both new and used BMW M2, M3 and M4 performance cars, the lightweight rims won’t come cheap, with rumours that in Europe that they will sell for a jaw-dropping €12,000 ($A20,000.)
