By Auto Today: BMW Group India has announced that the company has had its best half-year, quarter and June sales for the BMW, Mini and BMW Motorrad brands. In total, 5,867 BMW and Mini cars were sold while BMW Motorcycles sold 4,667 motorcycles in H1.

BMW’s electric cars such as the i7 have made BMW a 50 per cent share holder in the Indian luxury EV market.

BMW Group India posted sales of 5,867 cars in H1 2023, growing 5 per cent compared to the same period last year. This comprises of 5,476 BMW cars which posted a 5.5 per cent growth while Mini with 391 cars posted a 3 per cent YoY growth. BMW’s two-wheeler arm – BMW Motorrad-posted an incredible 50 per cent YoT growth with 4,667 units sold.

BMW Group India is leading the EV charge despite being one of the last luxury manufacturers to introduce EVs in India. The company currently sells the i7, iX, i4 and Mini SE in India, which together constitute 50 per cent of the sales in the luxury EV market. The BMW iX is the brand’s best-selling electric vehicle and also the best selling luxury EV in India. BMW says that the brand deliveries 11 times more EVs in H1 2023 than H1 2022. The growth in EV sales is supplemented by a widespread EV charging network spread across 35 BMW Group dealers in India.

SUVs (Sports Activity Vehicle or SAV in BMW terminology) contributed over 50 per cent of the brand’s sales. The newly launched BMW X1 has had a tremendous response and currently contributes 20 per cent to the sales volume. Meanwhile, the X5 which has just been launched will add to BMW’s SUV portfolio.

BMW X1 is the highest selling SUV for BMW.

Amongst sedans the BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine was the highest-selling model, contributing to 20 per cent of BMW’s sedan volumes. BMW has also increased its luxury class sales with models such as the BMW 7 Series, BMW i7, BMW X7 and XM which have doubled in volumes. The luxury class have posted a YoY growth of 128 per cent. Demand for the luxury class is also very high, with the BMW 7 Series, BMW i7 and the BMW X7 currently having a waiting period of 4 months. The BMW M340i is the brand’s highest selling performance sedan, doubling its YoY sales.

Mini posted sales volumes of 3 per cent YoY, selling 391 units in H1. Of this the locally assembled Countryman dominated the sales with a 63 per cent share, while the Mini 3-door has a 20 per cent share. The Mini Cooper SE is the third highest selling model from the brand contributing 14 per cent in sales.

BMW Motorrad sold 4,667 units in H1 which has been fueled by the BMW G 310 R, G 310 RR and the G 310 GS which contribute to 90 per cent of sales volume. Amongst these, the BMW G 310 RR is the highest selling model.
