Still, the preparation for that event helped set the tone for Saturday’s win in the Pro Late Model.
“We were looking forward to running the Super Series race here about a month ago, it got rained out. This car actually was really good for that race. We decided to put a different motor in it and run these races.”
Tullis, a two-time Show Me the Money champion, doggedly pursued Robbins throughout the second half of the race, charging hard into the corners in hopes of shaking Robbins.
“I thought we had pretty even cars there,” said Tullis. “I worked him for so long hoping he’d make a mistake. There’s no doubt about it, Hunter’s a pretty good shoe. It didn’t surprise me he didn’t make a mistake, and I burned my stuff up there working him so long.
“I think if I had gotten around him, I might have been able to put a gap between us. I just ran it too hard trying to get around him.”
While the top two finishers were familiar faces, Chase Spradlin surprised with a third-place finish to complete the podium. Spradlin’s previous best finish in the Show Me the Money Series was a sixth-place showing during the 2021 season.
“Third don’t seem like much to some, but it’s a win for us tonight,” said Spradlin. “We’re building on this car. I got the opportunity to run this, Bobby Reuse let me run his other car tonight.
“Grand American Race Car, by the way. We got a podium finish for them. I know Augie isn’t here, he probably would have been up there [in victory lane], but I’m glad I could get a podium finish for them.”
