VISTA, CA — A motorist crashed his car into a utility pole and died over the weekend, authorities said.
The single-vehicle crash happened at about 11:25 p.m. Saturday on North Melrose Drive near the intersection with Tatum Street in Vista, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
A black Mercedes-Benz sedan driving southbound on Melrose veered off the west side of the roadway for unknown reasons and crashed into a utility pole, sheriff’s Deputy Jason Malson said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
“It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision,” Malson said.
The department’s Vista Traffic Division was handling the investigation.
