Police investigating the murder of pregnant Marelle Sturrock believe she was killed in a premedicated attack, a source has said.

After the body of pregnant teacher Sturrock, 35, was found at her home in Glasgow on Tuesday morning, a search was launched for her partner David Yates who was wanted in connection with her death.

His body was found on Thursday in the nearby in the Mugdock Reservoir.

Now an insider has told Scotland’s Sunday Mail that police believe Yates planned the attack, as he dropped the couple’s dog at his mum’s house before it took place.

A source told the Sunday Mail: “It is thought to have been pre-planned because David brought the dog to his mum’s house in Bearsden the night before and told her he had plans the next day. It is not being considered as an accident – it was a brutal, frenzied attack.”

Police were called to the Sturrock and Yates’ home in the Craigton area of Glasgow at 8.40am on Tuesday after receiving a “call of concern”.

Sturrock, who was 29 weeks pregnant, was found dead at the scene, and a hunt for Yates was launched.

Police have said they are not seeking anyone else in connection with Sturrock’s death.

Reports will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.

Detective Superintendent Nicola Kilbane has said: “Our thoughts are with Marelle’s family and friends, along with everyone affected by this tragedy.

“We are providing her family with specialist support at this incredibly difficult time.”

Officials from the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) are said to be investigating whether Sturrock’s life could have been saved before she was killed.

Police Scotland said they could not comment on the PIRC investigation.
