BMW’s 2024 XM Label Red Is Its Most Powerful Production Car Ever

Now, while there’s some debate on whether or not you really need a 700-hp vehicle when driving through city streets or on the highway, there’s something magnificent about feeling the power at your fingertips, even if its just for intermittent moments at a time. While it’s still a ways off from the likes of Koenigsegg’s 1,000-plus-hp offerings or even the 987-hp Bugatti Veyron — the fastest production car when debuting in 2005 — BMW’s upcoming XM Label Red is the German marque’s most powerful production model ever.

With supercar-esque horsepower output (although it’s not a supercar), the XM Label Red was first announced last year upon the debut of the standard XM, which is a plug-in hybrid crossover SUV version based on BMW’s full-sized X7. The name of the new vehicle stems from the red-colored accents that come both inside and outside the car, including the grill surrounds and the seats themselves. Limited to 500 units, the Label Red also comes with the option to pick from over 50 different colored paint finishes found in BMW’s Individual lineup. The color in the press photos is Individual Frozen Carbon Black metallic.

Compared to the XM, the XM Label Red bumps the horsepower from 644hp to 748hp by combining the 585hp 4.4L M TwinPower Turbo V8 combustion engine with an electric motor. That’s good for 737lb.ft of torque, a 0 to 60 time of 3.8 seconds, and a top speed of 155mph (though it can go up to 180mph with the optional M Driver’s Package). 

Debuting later this month at Auto Shanghai, the XM Label Red should enter production this August for the 2024 model year. While the standard XM is priced around $159,000, the Label Red was said to have a sticker price of $185,000 when first announced back in September. However, BMW has seemed to omit the MSRP from any press info this time around.
